When we talk about sustainability, the first thing that springs to mind for most people is long-term and environmentally friendly.
To elaborate further, we may add that it essentially means to persist over an extended length of time while causing low or no environmental harm.
Sustainability and carpets go hand in hand at Carpets of Kashmir.
We are one of the leading and most well-known manufacturers of eco-friendly rugs and carpets based in Mumbai. Our showroom and website offer a diverse collection of carpets created from the most sustainable materials.
At ‘Carpets of Kashmir’ we provide a wide range of sustainable carpets for your office and bespoke home. We use natural fibres like pure Merino wool, silk or a blend of wool-silk. Wool is a natural fibre that does not shed microplastics, which can harm ocean health. Wool is 100% biodegradable in both land and marine habitats, according to scientific studies.
In comparison to other fibres, silk is a renewable resource with a low environmental impact. Silkworms eat mulberry leaves, which don’t require much in the way of pesticides or fertilisers to thrive.
Discover the dual benefits of our handmade hand-knotted oriental rugs. They not only enhance your home’s aesthetic appeal but also improve indoor air quality, offer natural insulation, regulate temperature, increase comfort, reduce stress, and diminish noise.
Silk is regarded to be a more environmentally friendly or sustainable material. It is a biodegradable, renewable material that consumes less water, chemicals, and energy than many other fibres.

So what are sustainable carpets?
To begin, these are carpets created from environmentally friendly raw materials. These are usually biodegradable, natural fibres that don’t require fertiliser or pesticides to grow.
There are now several sustainable carpet options to pick from for people concerned about the environmental impact of their carpet selections. However, keep in mind that a sustainable carpet will incorporate all stages of the production process that causes less or no harm to the environment.
The majority of natural fibres are ecologically friendly and can frequently be obtained in large quantities. They are mostly renewable in nature. There are a few exceptions that are less abundant but, on the plus side, do not hurt the environment and are worth investing in.
The dyes used in all our carpets are Azo-free, chrome and eco-friendly dyes.
Our rugs and carpets are manufactured with environmentally safe materials, including natural fibres and dyes. To produce the carpet, we use hand-knotting and hand-made techniques. The dyes that we use in our carpets and rugs are organic in nature.
Options for environmentally friendly carpets include responsible disposal and loop closure:
This leads to the next point. There are carpets that may be responsibly disposed of, avoiding incineration or landfill, and ensuring that all materials circulate without ever becoming waste.
What’s next?
Although a carpet cannot survive indefinitely, it can be recycled after usage. The most environmentally friendly flooring solutions are those that can be reused in the future, such as carpets made from recyclable materials that can be resold after usage.
