Why Oriental Rugs Are Expensive? – The knowledge base »

Welcome to the world of opulence!

From time to time, we have seen our clients raise this question about the price of oriental rugs. They always come up with questions like ‘ why are oriental rugs expensive over another category of rugs?’ or ‘what makes it so costly’. We are sure you have this question too. Whether you’re new to buying carpets or want to know the reasons, we hope this blog post will enlighten you.

Why oriental rugs are expensive?

About oriental rugs:

Oriental rugs are one of the oldest categories of rugs to exist alongside Persian rugs. Asian countries are famous for crafting some of the most exquisite handmade hand-knotted rugs.

According to some reliable sources, Iran, India, Russia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Nepal are some of the biggest rug exporters of oriental rugs.

The authentic art of making an oriental rug is famous in these countries. The artisans of these countries are highly skilled in weaving this category of design rugs. Speaking of which, they weave a lot more into it than just the design.

Oriental rugs aren’t just any rug. They are the traditional form of rugs and use the traditional methods of weaving a rug: handmade and hand-knotted.

Our Oriental Rugs »

We are one of the leading manufacturers of India’s best selling oriental rugs. Our oriental rugs are crafted from the finest quality of 100% pure Merino wool, natural pure Mulberry silk and even the blend of two: wool-silk rugs.

The oriental Kashmir rugs crafted by our weavers are of the finest quality for bespoke homes; adoring living rooms, bedrooms, coffee table rugs and even scatter rugs as well as passageway rugs.

We manufacture oriental rugs in various sizes, colours and designs like Persian lineage floral rugs, geometric patterns and masterpieces of wall hangings and pictorial rugs.

We have 2000+ rugs and carpets at our showroom, with that wide range of options available online. Our oriental rugs come with a certification of authenticity by ‘RugAssure’.

Factors that make oriental rugs the ‘expensive category of rugs’:

  • Material
  • Size
  • Design
  • Production time
  • Uniqueness

Let’s look at each factor in depth.

Materials »

The material used in an oriental rug determines most of its price along with other factors. Good material, without a doubt, will cost you a lot.

Oriental rugs are usually made from wool and silk, but also the blend of two. And these materials are known to be expensive due to their nature. We don’t craft low-quality rugs from some cheap materials and try to ‘fleece’ our global and domestic customers, who have been buying from us for over decades: online as well as offline.

You can’t expect any low-level quality material to give you the benefits of lasting a lifetime as the good quality ones do? The better the material, the longer it lasts and the more it costs.

At ‘carpets of Kashmir’, we use the highest quality material in trade to craft oriental rugs.

Size »

The size one chooses for the oriental rug decides its cost. The bigger the size, the more time it takes to craft and hence the increases in labour. The more material one has to use. It is one of the factors that decide the other two factors.

Large carpets like those measuring over 14 feet by 18 feet; typically take 12-16 weeks depending on the design, motifs and materials used to craft it.

Typically a team of weavers along with a master craftsman spends weeks/months to create a world-class unique masterpiece.

Design and Production Time »

When we talk about oriental rugs, the first thing that comes into our mind is the oriental design. The name itself suggests the design and the design defines an oriental rug. Oriental rugs stand out a lot from the rest of the rugs due to their beautiful range of designs. So if you cherish traditional design, this can be your go-to option.

Oriental rugs have the most complex design patterns and motifs. This design takes a lot of time and skill level. Since these rugs are handwoven on a loom, it takes more production time in comparison to the contemporary rugs that are hand-tufted and made on machines.

Uniqueness »

Each oriental rug crafted by our artisans is a unique piece. There are no two pieces alike.

Since each rug is crafted individually, it is practically impossible to craft a twin!

This allows us to craft customised oriental rugs as per the requirements of our discerning clients.
