At our showroom situated at World Trade Center; Mumbai we proudly showcase 2,000+ handmade and hand-knotted carpets and rugs, where our clients have been stepping in regularly and selected some of the finest oriental rugs for their bespoke homes, in past 30+ years.

Each of these masterpieces is truly unique! There are no two same carpets, even if the weaver, size, material, colours etc. are identical.

The reason is easy to understand: these are not-machine made mass-produced items; like the FMCG assembly-line products.

These are handcrafted items of superior quality materials and fall in the luxury segment in the home decor arena.

As manufacturers, we have to ensure that the products sold from our company are world-class and satisfy the client completely.

To warrant that we produce high quality and genuine carpets and rugs, each carpet is accompanied by a certificate: RugAssure.

This certificate authenticates the genuineness of the product and gives the buyer a valid proof of product genuineness.

The Manufacturing Process »

The carpets and rugs available online and offline at our showroom are made from natural pure silk or 100% Merino (New Zealand) wool or a perfect blend of both; to create such alluring products.

For the smaller sized carpets (3 feet by 2 feet & 4 feet by 2.5 feet), it typically takes an expert weaver about 8-10 days of tireless effort to finish the product from the designing stage to handing over the masterpiece. For the larger size carpets; a tame of weavers work on the masterpiece for weeks or sometimes even months.

This is especially true in the case of custom made carpets.

In addition to the ready in-stock rugs, we have been offering custom made modern carpets for over three decades.

Our clients have adored these beauties in their bespoke homes; claiming rare accolades for these art pieces.

These are not considered as part of the interior decor but as a family heirloom.

Let us dive a little deeper in the fascinating and enthralling world of oriental carpet making.

Unlike the carpets made in Iran; called as Persian rugs, carpets manufactured in India, Pakistan, China, Turkey, Tibet and other regions are called oriental carpets. The oriental carpets are also known as Islamic carpets, as the majority of the countries/regions where these are weaved are now Islamic.

Traditionally, the oriental carpets have been used as Islamic prayer rugs (‘Jai’namaz’), Jewish Torah ark covers (parochet), and Christian altar covers and not just as an interior decor add-on.

Trivia: It is called Pazyryk and was extracted from the grave of a nobleman in Siberia in 1949. Carbon dating proved that the carpet was weaved in 400 BC, making it the oldest carpets on record.

Technically – warps and wefts form the foundation of the carpet, the pile accounts for the design. Warp and weft are the two basic components used in weaving to turn thread or yarn into fabric. The lengthwise or longitudinal warp yarns are held stationary in tension on a frame or loom while the transverse weft (sometimes called woof) is drawn through and inserted over-and-under the warp.

Dyes – All the colours used in our carpets are Azo-free, chrome and eco-friendly dyes, while some of them are vegetable dyes.

Knots – These are measured per square meter or centimetre. Higher the number, more intricate the workmanship and the corresponding higher price commanded for the carpet. For example, a carpet made with Pure Merino (New Zealand) wool with silk-blend has approx. 620,000 knots per square metre while a pure natural silk carpet may have approx. 749,900 knots per square metre!

Designs – Oriental carpets are traditionally divided into floral and geometric (also know as tribal) designs. There are a few exceptional carpets that showcase the merger of these two.

Another popular; yet off-beat design are the pictorial rugs, which are traditionally showcased as wall hangings rather than being placed on the floor.

Materials – At Carpets of Kashmir, we use one of the finest materials for the manufacturing of the carpets. We use, pure natural silk, 100% Merino (New Zealand) wool and a perfect blend of the two to create the magical Kashmir carpet.

Placement – Depending on the utility, size and interior decor, the carpets are placed accordingly. We have a huge collection of rugs for bedrooms, living rooms as well as runners for corridors.
